Golf cart batteries when used always to the limit are deteriorating rapidly. So golf cart repair inevitably requires opening up the battery compartment. Its stored energy is discharged daily and will require full charge nightly. Unlike car’s battery, golf cart batteries do not charge during its running period. These frequent discharging and then recharging pose an immense problem on the batteries which will result to shortening of its life. You’ll be amazed that you can manage to repair easily these batteries whenever you can detect signs of lowering its performance.

Golf Cart RepairWhen you encounter premature defects as manifested by lowering of the performance of the batteries even below its life’s expectancy, don’t be discourage because golf cart repair is not so difficult – there are still quick ways to repair your golf cart batteries as follow:

  1. Unlock battery compartment – Generally golf cart batteries are installed under the front seat which necessitate the front seat to be pulled out of the cart. However, in some models the front seat is pivoted and it is just lifted up straight.
  2. Totally clean the batteries – Wipe all surfaces using a paint brush with plain water, and then remove the corroded portion. Prepare a solution with a ratio of 2 tablespoons of baking soda to 1 quart of water. Using gloves and eye goggles dip the paint brush into the solution and copiously apply it in all the corroded areas. You will notice bubbles where the solution and battery acid come in contact.
  3. Check the batteries for defects – Take away and change any batteries with crack and have leaks. Correct any other defects encountered.
  4. Uncover plastic caps of batteries’ cells – To remove the caps, push the end of a slot screwdriver under the cell cap and force it open. Inspect each battery cell for exposed plates and add distilled water to cover all the plates.
  5. Charge the batteries overnight – Connect the positive wire (red) to the positive pole of the battery and the negative wire (black) to the negative pole of the battery. Check the connections, plug in and switch on the charger.
  6. Check the charge of the battery – In the morning check the battery charger if the battery is charged fully. Recheck the cells and add distilled water if found to be deficient. However, if the charger does not show a fully charged battery, you need to take the next step.
  7. Remove the acid of the batteries – Tilt the batteries on its edge and permit about half of the acid water to drain into a plastic container. Clean the batteries by repeating step 2.
  8. Refill batteries’ cells with Epsom salts solution – Prepare a solution with a ration of 8 ounces Epsom salts to 2 quarts of distilled water and stir thoroughly. By using turkey baster refill with Epsom salt solution each battery cells until it reaches its normal level.
  9. Charge the batteries overnight as described in step 6 – There is a possibility that there are deposits on the battery plates which previously prevented the battery from receiving a full charge. The main purpose of putting Epsom salt solution is to remove the deposits on the plates of the batteries. If after charging the battery overnight it still does not accept a full charge, there is a great possibility that the battery cannot be saved.
  10. Take the batteries to its manufacturer – After doing the above set of procedures, and you are not getting a good result, there is still another option of salvaging your batteries. You can bring your batteries to its manufacturer which they can thoroughly examine the problem of your batteries using sophisticated instruments and tools. Let your manufacturer decide intelligently if the batteries can be saved or not. After all if these can be repaired, this option will give you a tremendous savings.

Golf cart batteries are becoming now expensive so golf cart repair is now more important than ever.
